This article examines the impact of technological change on the traditional Acadian society (of Southwestern Nova Scotia) and on the survival of the Acadians. This analysis in being conducted by viewing the Acadian culture as a whole and trying to see how technological advances have brought about new occupational patterns and deep changes in the social structure (family and kinship structure, processes of social differentiation, and the new power elites) as well as in value-orientations. Viewing all these socio-cultural transformations as acculturational changes, the author assesses the possibilities of survival and development of the Acadian society.

La sociologie fait face au constat du caractère local des savoirs et des objets qui figurent en tant que médiation de ses travaux empiriques. Cet article propose d'utiliser les référents de la localisation sociale (langage, espace et temps de l'action sociale) afin d'orienter la démarche d'étude de cas. Conce-vant que les savoirs et les pratiques sociales, dans les sociétés contemporaines, sont localisés plutôt que strictement locaux, l'auteur définit, à partir de la description du processus d'assimilation et d'accommodation (Jean Piaget) dont font état la connaissance et les pratiques sociales, les règles d'une méthode permettant l'identification d'une régionalisation du social. À l'appui de cette démarche, un traitement de l'information en série, recourant à l'informatique qualitative des documents, est proposé pour reconstruire les formes sociales constitutives d'une économie régionalisée.

This paper is the report of the evaluation of Bachelor of Circumpolar Studies 331 and 332 (BCS 331 and 332) organized by the University of the Arctic. UArctic is a partnership of academic institutions, Indigenous peoples' organizations, the Arctic states, and other stakeholders.The Bachelor of Circumpolar Studies (BCS) program was first proposed in 1998. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about the lands, peoples, and issues of the Circumpolar World and prepares them for advanced study or professional employment in fields such as community health, sustainable resource management, self-government, and tourism. Central to the BCS is the educational needs and aspirations of northern peoples and, by extension, the goals and values of the University. It promotes interdisciplinary study and relevant professional preparation. It embraces both Western and traditional knowledge systems. It fosters connections among northern neighbors and it encourages the sharing of knowledge and expertise.The Nordic Council og Ministers has been one of the main partners to the University of the Arctic in this project.
